Waseem Akram Biography
Waseem Akram is a legendary Pakistani cricketer who was born on 3rd June 1966 in Lahore, Pakistan. Waseem Akram popularly known as ‘Sultan of Swing’ and ‘King of Swing’ was considered as the most lethal and quick-witted left arm fast bowler who had the ability to destroy any batting side in the world. He is the only Pakistani cricketer who was nominated in the all-time Test World XI in October 2013 while celebrating the 150th anniversary of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.
The master of reverse swing started his career on 23rd November 1984 against New Zealand. In 1985, he started his test career. After that, Waseem Akram never looked back. He got his early education at Government Islamia College Civil Lines Lahore. At the age of 30, Waseem Akram was diagnosed with diabetes, but he faced the situation bravely and kept on playing for the Pakistan team.

Being a cricket superstar, Waseem’s name was associated with a number of girls. But all the rumors died when he got married to Huma Mufti in 1995. The couple had two children names as Tahmoor, born in1996 and Akbar, born in the year 2000. Waseem and Huma spent fifteen years of happy married life. Huma was a psychologist, and she always backed Waseem Akram in times of anxiety and stress.
As a matter of fact, Huma played a significant role in bringing up the children because Waseem had to stay abroad due to cricketing tours. Waseem admitted that Huma played both the roles of a lovely wife and a real mentor to him. Sadly, Huma passed away on October 25, 2009. She was suffering from multiple organ failures. She breathed her last at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, India.

After the demise of Huma, Waseem Akram spent a few years alone with his kids. In 2011, he met with an Australian lady, Shaniera Thompson, while he was visiting Melbourne, Australia. On 12 August 2013, Akram got married to Shaniera Thompson. The marriage ceremony was held in Lahore, Pakistan. After that, Waseem Akram shifted to Karachi with his wife and both the boys. The couple tweeted on 3rd September 2014 that they are expecting a child. On 27th December 2014, Allah blessed the couple with a baby girl the third child of Waseem Akram.
Waseem Akram Career
During his career, Waseem Akram played 104 test matches, and 356 ODIs. In 104 test matches, he scored 2898 runs with a batting average of 22.64. He scored three hundred and seven fifties in test matches. He got 414 wickets with a bowling average of 23.62. As far as his ODI career is concerned, he scored 3717 runs at an average of 16.52. He also scored six fifties in ODIs. Waseem Akram got 502 wickets with a bowling average of 23.52. Waseem Akram is honored to have four hat-tricks, two in Test matches and two in ODIs. After the retirement, he is currently working as a cricket commentator. He is also the director of Islamabad United.
